Corona-spray
In Russia, scientists are developing a nasal spray based on immunoglobulin extracted from the blood plasma. It will help in the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections and coronavirus, said Lydia Novikova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the immunobiological preparations laboratory in the Rospotrebnadzor’s Epidemiology and Microbiology Research Institute named after Georgy Gabrichevsky.

According to her, the course of treatment will take from 5 to 10 days, and the spray will have to be used 2-3 times a day.

“Once sprinkled, the immunoglobulins begin to work, and then they leave the nasal cavity naturally”, Novikova told to the URA.RU portal.

“The drug may be contraindicated to people with an allergy to immunoglobulin. Although it is not injected into the bloodstream, it can still cause an allergic reaction”, Novikova said.

She noted that the drugdevelopment will take several years.

“To introduce the drug into practice, it is necessary to conduct clinical trials in accordance with the currently available standards, on the basis of which the drug will be registered. This usually requires a couple more years of work”, she noted.
